Dooars is one of the few places left in the country where nature is so lavish of her green facilities, and its unending stretch of virgin forests is cress-crossed by the River Teesta and its innumerable tributaries. This region is about 30 km wide and also stretches over about 350 km from the Teesta River in West Bengal to the Dhanshiri River in Assam. Dooars also means ‘Dooars’ in Assamese, Bengali, Maithli, Bhojpuri, Magahi and Telugu languages. It has 18 passages or gateways between the hills in Bhutan and the plains in India. This region is divided by the Sankosh River into the Eastern and the Western Dooars which consisting of an area of 8800 sq km.
Dooars is politically constitutes the plains of Darjeeling District, the whole of the Alipurduar districts and Jalpaiguri districts and the upper region of Cooch Behar districts in West Bengal and some of the districts in the state of Assam.
Average rainfall of the area is about 3500 mm. Summer in the Dooars area is mild and constitutes a very short period of the year. Visitors prefer visiting the town during the festive season, as the place is known for having a pleasant weather throughout the year. During November and December, exclusive tourism festival called Teesta Tea and Tourism fest are celebrated, it is the great time to visit the city as these festivals are real fun to be a part of the multiple activities, water sports, cultural events happening. During this time the West Bengal government in collaboration with the Indian Railway runs special trains connected Dooars to Cooch Behar and Siliguri.
The beauty of Dooars is not only in the Tea garden but the region also lies in the dense jungles that make up the countryside. Many wildlife sanctuaries and national park like Manas National Park in Assam, Jaldapara National Park, Buxa National Park, Gorumara National Park, Chapramari Wildlife Reserve and the Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary in West Bengal are located in the Dooars region.
It is a long river flowing through the Indian states of West Bengal and Sikkim before going to Bay of Bengal through Bangladesh. In temperate and tropical river valleys forms the border between Sikkim and West Bengal. It also flows through the city of Rangpo, Jalpaiguri and Kalimpong and joins the Jamuna in the Bangladesh.
It is an small town situated on the foot of the Himalayas in the Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal. The small town is surrounded by hills, tea garden, rivers and forests. Nearby the forests the residence is a good collection of elephants and rhinos, which is situated on the way towards Birpara or Alipurduar from Siliguri via Malbazar.
A municipalty in Jalpaiguri district, which is also known as Mal is a sub-divisional town in North Bengal India lies about 65 km from Jalpaiguri and 55 km from Siliguri.
